Answer # 3
A. Lt. Colonel George Washington at age 23 showed great valor during Braddock’s Defeat in July 1755 as most of the British and colonial troops panicked and retreated in disorder. Daniel Boone, 20, was a wagoner in the rear of the British entourage on that fateful day. He was swept up in the retreat and escaped.
B. Sequoyah was born to the union of Wu-teh, a Cherokee princess, and a white trader, Nathanial Gist, who was a frequent hunting companion of Daniel Boone. Nathanial’s father was Christopher Gist, a frontier guide for the British at Braddock’s Defeat during the French and Indian War. He lived for time near today’s Wilkesboro, NC along the Upper Yadkin River near Daniel Boone.
C. When Daniel and 27 salt makers near Fort Boonesborough were captured by Shawnee warriors in 1778, Daniel walked as a prisoner to Fort Detroit where he was interrogated by Lt. Governor of Quebec, Henry Hamilton. Hamilton earned the nickname "Hair Buyer" because he incited the Shawnee and other tribes to take scalps of white settlers in the Ohio Valley.
D. During the American Revolution, Daniel Boone served in the Virginia legislature with Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. After Boone was captured in Charlottesville in 1781 following a daring raid by British Col. Banastre Tarleton and then released, Boone rejoined the other legislators at their temporary meeting spot, Trinity Church, in Staunton, Virginia.
