A Daniel Boone HeritageTrail in North Carolina
Interest has been expressed for decades in establishing a Daniel Boone Heritage Trail in North Carolina. A recent effort involving the Department of Commerce has been handed off to a committee of interested persons in the Yadkin Valley. Most of these persons have a connection with or responsibility for tourism, economic development, or historical preservation and promotion.
Below is a map of a proposed heritage trail. This route was shared with others, including the DoC, in February 2009. It remains now as then a starting point for further development. Also shown in another display are images of sights that can be seen in North Carolina that relate to the life of Daniel Boone. Some communities may suggest additional sights, but these are the major ones of interest to a large percentage of the tourism community.
Best wishes to the committee in creating the trail, especially on the occasion of Daniel's 275th birthday. Meanwhile, the route below, which I call the Daniel Boone Footsteps Heritage Trail in North Carolina, is available to the traveling public as a way to experience the life of Daniel Boone. See the book In the Footsteps of Daniel Boone for more information.
